1.3.2 Systemic Partnership
Sparrows Point High School has a strong partnership with Baltimore County Office of Outdoor Education. The Office of Outdoor Education provides us with several dates each year for field trips. Joe and Matt lead field trips at Jerusalem Mill, Oregon Ridge, Days Cove, Dundee Creek, Cromwell Valley, Sparks Park and North Point Park, Additionally, they have brought the Outdoor Education program to our school by providing our 9th grade Environmental Science students with Deer and Bear Management lessons.
In the past, Sparrows Point has hosted the Office of Outdoor Education for a professional education opportunity, built and installed 20 bluebird houses at the Days Cove facility and has partnered on numerous other projects. We are very fortunate to have this relationship as it provides both our students and faculty with multiple opportunities to participate in environmental education. Sparrows Point has also built Wood duck boxes and donated aquarium equipment for the Days Cove wet lab.
During the spring semester of 2020, Sparrows Point students were scheduled to assess the Oregon Ridge State Park and answer the following essential questions based upons collected data: In what ways will biodiversity change in response to a changing climate in the Oregon Ridge ecosystem? In what ways will a changing climate affect the flow of matter and energy within the Oregon Ridge ecosystem?
Students would then present findings during the Oregon Ridge Earth Day 50 year celebration. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 the field trips and the Earth Day event were cancelled, We have included documentation as we were very excited for this opportunity and feel it will strengthen evidence of our ongoing partnership even though this worthwhile project had to be cancelled.

A strong partnership between our school and our Facilities Management office is vital to our Green School status. This office approves our projects and helps to support us when we need assistance. Examples of projects that require Facilities approval are the vegetable garden, native plant gardens, the addition of stairs to our recycling containers, and the placement of a much needed additional recycling container.
