1.4 Celebration
Each year we celebrate our Green School status by hosting The Trashy Fashion Show, the Crown Jewel of Sparrows Point's Green School efforts. Students from Sparrows Point High, Sparrows Point Middle, Edgemere Elementary, and Chesapeake Terrace Elementary schools participate in the show. Each November, for one night only, approximately 500 spectators gather in the Sparrows Point High school auditorium for the much awaited Trashy Fashion Show. Approximately 50 high school students work hard to produce this spectacular show. Approximately 30 design outfits and 20 others work on the show's production. Students spend after school hours designing and creating their masterpieces or working on set design and build. High school students design entire ensembles (complete with accessories) as individual designers or collaborate in design teams. Sparrows Point Middle school students work in small groups or pair with a high school student to create their outfits. Our elementary school students design head wear and other wearable art for the special night. The students work on this for about 2 -3 months. Outfits, the stage decor and even the trophies are made out of recycled items. A true community event!! This event is truly magical, see the video for more highlights.

During the school closures in 2020-2021 the Green Team remained very active. The Green Team is planning a Trivia Night to celebrate World Recycling Day. The questions for the event are focused around the Green School Objectives. Students have spent several weeks preparing for this event and are looking forward to a great time!

ALL science students celebrate Earth Day and our Green School status by inviting kindergarten students from Edgemere and Chesapeake Terrace elementary schools to our school for a Kids Science Fair. Here high school students share what they have learned in their science classes with the younger students. Many of the projects have an environmental component to them. This is one of our favorite activities of the year thoroughly enjoyed by both the younger students and the older role models!
Reminders of our environmental focus are displayed throughout the school.
