3.1 Community Partnerships
3.1.1 Sparrows Point students are active in their community
Sparrows Point has had a long standing involvement with our elementary feeder schools. For several years ALL science students celebrate our Green School status and Earth Day by inviting kindergarten students from Edgemere and Chesapeake Terrace Elementary schools to the high school for a Kids Science fair. Here high school students share what they have learned in their science classes with the younger students. Many of the projects have an environmental component to them. Our last fair took place on April 26,2018. Our 2019 fair had to be cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control. We all know what happened to the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years. We look forward to the resurgence of this worthy event as soon as we can!

Read the Outdoors- On March 16th and 17th, 2018, 9th grade students in field and wildlife welcomed 6th grade students from Sparrows Point Middle to their classroom to teach them about animals and environmental related subjects. This collaborative project was funded through a grant from the Education Foundation of Baltimore County. The foundation funded the purchase of high interest reading books based around subject areas related to wildlife. As a reward for completing their reading assignments 6th graders joined the high schoolers for hands-on instruction. The high school students had to research and develop a short lesson for the students. 6th grade students completed a scavenger hunt as they visited each of the learning stations.
In addition to the above mentioned partnerships our students actively participate in local community sponsored clean-ups. These clean-ups provide students with the opportunity to engage in service learning and are advertised throughout our building and on our morning announcements.
3.1.2 The Community is Active in Sparrows Point High School
Partner Active in the School
Sparrows Point has worked hard to maintain several community partnerships. We enjoy an ongoing partnership with Clear Shark H2O and the Oyster Recovery Program. Our partnership began in the Fall of 2015. Clear Shark H2O and ORP provides the school with professional development opportunities and in-class lessons on oysters and the importance of oysters in the Chesapeake Bay. During the 2019-2020 school year ORP expanded lessons to include our zoology class. ClearShark H2O and ORP sponsor a workshop for teachers every year.
